May 4, 2010 is National Teacher Day, a time for honoring teachers and recognizing the lasting contributions they make to our lives.
This year's Annual Meeting was held June 26 –July 6, 2009 in San Diego, CA. The first two days were devoted to meetings, conferences, and exhibits, followed by the four-day Representative Assembly (RA) — the Association's highest decision-making body. With over 9,000 delegates, the RA is the world's largest democratic deliberative body. Delegates debate issues that impact American public education and set policy for the 2.8 million member Association.

AFT.org
The American Federation of Teachers (ATF) was founded in 1916 to represent the economic, social, and professional interests of classroom teachers. It is an affiliated international union of the AFL-CIO.
The AFT has more than 3,000 local affiliates nationwide, 43 state affiliates, and more than 1.4 million members. ATF mission statement:

give voice to their legitimate professional, economic and social
